Paris: A Minnesota Greenstar Remodel

Paris | Minneapolis | Minnesota

Birds in the walls, poor insulation, and stairs that didn’t meet code were only the tip of the iceberg of problems for this Minneapolis home.  A major renovation ensued with only the exterior studs left standing.  A two-story addition was added to the rear of the house to accommodate the stair.  Each floor (basement to the second floor) was reconfigured to give the homeowners an open floor plan in this typical 1920 era home.  In the original footprint of the home typical materials were used – double hung windows, stucco exterior, oak flooring, but where the new additions were created commercial glass, Hardie board panels, and bronze metal rails were utilized.  Every element was considered for its impact on the environment and energy efficiency was greatly improved by the addition of spray foam insulation, new energy efficient windows, and new duct work throughout.  The results are a home that is still scaled to fit into the neighborhood and allows a modern family to have all the conveniences and luxuries of today.
