Greg Elsner

Architect | Director of Design

AIA, NCARB

Greg has been a registered architect and project manager at Shelter Architecture since 2016. With a background that ranges from building and construction to architecture, Greg brings a knowledge to the team that allows Shelter to deliver projects that are not only innovative but practical and well detailed. The breath of Greg’s architectural work extends well beyond the Shelter studio. Since living in Kenya for a year on a design fellowship from 2009-2010, Greg has been involved in important education and water projects in the country. In addition, Greg and his wife led the effort to develop the Mugunda Maternity Clinic, a prenatal and postnatal care clinic in Mugunda, Kenya. The clinic was completed and welcomed its first birth in 2022. Currently, Greg is working to restore and renovate his own home in Taylors Falls, originally architecturally designed in 1970.

In 2019, Greg was awarded for his work as a builder and maker of things. His sauna project titled “The Löyly” won a RAVE (Residential Architects Vision & Excellence) Award through Mpls. St. Paul Home & Design. Back in the office, Greg has led some other award-winning work, including projects Skill Shot Coffee & Pinball Bar and The Hangar.
