The original Black Waffle & Coffee Bar on Como Avenue was such a hit that its founders decided to set up a second location. On a corner of “the busiest intersection in St. Paul”, the cafe embraces the hip, simple, and minimalist brand identity that coffee & waffle fans have come to love.
While the partners took a DIY approach to the Como location of Black Coffee & Waffle Bar, “in this second iteration they asked Shelter to embrace the current brand aesthetic and create a space with more finish and refinement,” Kurt Gough, Shelter lead designer says of the cafe expansion. Black serves waffles with fresh ingredients and in-house-made toppings. Local roaster Dogwood Coffee provides the coffee beans. “When we started out, we were a coffee shop that served waffles,” says Heather Feider, general manager, “but we’ve turned into a waffle shop that serves specialty coffee!”
