This 1940’s home in South Minneapolis had a typical layout for the time, where each room was separated both physically and by function. It was truly a house full of rooms with no real flow. Embracing the homeowners’ active and environmentally responsible lifestyles combined with their desire for openness, connection, and responsibility, this Revived Vintage Charm home renovation focused on optimizing their existing space to create a better living environment.

This 1940’s home in South Minneapolis had a typical layout for the time, where each room was separated both physically and by function. It was truly a house full of rooms with no real flow. Embracing the homeowners’ active and environmentally responsible lifestyles combined with their desire for openness, connection, and responsibility, this Revived Vintage Charm home renovation focused on optimizing their existing space to create a better living environment.
By removing a non-load-bearing wall, we seamlessly connected the dining area and kitchen, fostering a sense of flow and interaction. The kitchen was also rearranged to maximize storage and functionality. Sustainability was a key priority throughout this project. Practices were implemented to incorporate recycled and repurposed materials in the space and thoughtful consideration was given to material selections including hardwood floor finishings, lighting, and paint among other products.
Although new modern elements and sustainable design solutions were added to this Revived Vintage Charm residence, the finishes of the reconfigured design match the original, vintage 1940’s aesthetic of the home. This revitalized space now harmoniously blends old and new where vintage charm, modern living, and sustainable design coexist.
