Two sisters, one shared love: a great bagel. The pair searched far and wide, traveling from New York City to San Francisco in pursuit of inspiration to create their version of a perfect bagel. When they finally developed the recipe themselves, Jen and Kate decided to share their new creation with the world. And so, Rise Bagel Co. was born.

Two sisters, one shared love: a great bagel. The pair searched far and wide, traveling from New York City to San Francisco in pursuit of inspiration to create their version of a perfect bagel. When they finally developed the recipe themselves, Jen and Kate decided to share their new creation with the world. And so, Rise Bagel Co. was born.
The sisters started small, selling their bagels at pop-ups and local markets. But their bagels were so tasty that word quickly spread, and they became instant hits. Before they knew it, the sisters were leaving their day jobs to focus on Rise Bagel Co. full-time.
To accommodate their growing business, the pair decided to build out an official Rise Bagel location and sought out Shelter to help them create their dream shop. Located in an old building in the North Loop neighborhood of Minneapolis, Jen and Kate entrusted our team to completely strip down the space and start from ground zero. Knowing the overall inspiration for the space would be driven by the Rise Bagel Co. logo itself, the design team created a space that reflect the simple, sleek, modern, organic aesthetic that the brand stood for. Using a color scheme of all black and white, we defined the entire store with clean, crisp, and simple materials. Considerable thought was also given to the functionality of the kitchen with commercial food preparation requirements in mind.
Jen and Kate’s dream of developing and sharing the perfect bagel with the world was made possible with the help of a beautifully and functionally designed space that reflects the Rise Bagel Co.’s brand. And the duo’s hard work paid off – Rise was named one of the best bagels in America by Food & Wine magazine in 2021. Rise Bagel has now become a beloved, local staple in the community and one that draws in visitors from across the country. Shelter is proud to have been a part of the journey!
