Screened Sanctuary

A family with a beautiful existing lake property in Northwestern Wisconsin had a vision of expanding their relaxation space with a new, bug-free waterfront gazebo that could be used to read, play games, and take in the stunning lake views. In short, a Screened Sanctuary.

A multigenerational gathering place for their family, this lakefront retreat was a space that our client wanted to be able to enjoy for years to come. Adding this additional lounge area outside of the home, even closer to the water, was just the thing to help them continue to enjoy their retreat from a new perspective. The client’s vision for the overall design centered on a fully wood-crafted, standalone structure with a focus on symmetry, and crisp, clean details.

The new space encapsulates the idyllic, cozy feel of this family’s up-north retreat. As you enter the new lakefront lounge, you’re immediately struck by the expansive view of the water through the 360 degree floor-to-ceiling screens that invite in the breeze coming off the lake from just outside. The lapping of the waves against the shore echo through the space, creating a picture-perfect spot to take in the natural beauty of the property’s surroundings. Standout design details include hidden joinery, a double door symmetrical design to maximize the flexibility of the furniture layout, a nod to the design of a footbridge, and hidden electrical with a dimmable remote control which makes for a pretty charming set up in the evening.

The Screened Sanctuary exudes a rustic elegance that blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. The structure stands as a testament to the family’s commitment to creating a space where they can unwind and create lasting memories, where generations can gather together.
