Local artists Caitlin Lempia-Bradford and Daren Henry selected for Shelter winter studio art gallery

What is the Shelter studio art gallery?

When we designed the new Shelter studio at International Market Square, we wanted to have the ability to display the work of local artisans as a way for them to showcase their talents and sell to a wider audience of Shelter clients and other design professionals in the building. We now feature local artwork in our studio which is rotated twice per year, typically at the start of winter and spring. The Shelter studio gallery is comprised of artwork displayed on the walls throughout our workspace which provides a beautiful backdrop and source of inspiration for our team to work amongst on a daily basis. When is the winter studio art gallery opening?

This year on Thursday, November 30th in conjunction with our Holiday Makers Market event we will be kicking off our Winter Studio Art Gallery featuring a collection of works from local artists Caitlin Lempia-Bradford and Daren Henry. Don’t miss out on a chance to peruse the new artwork on display, meet the artists behind the designs and shop from a variety of local pop-up vendors on the 30th! Read more about the event.

Who are the featured artists for the winter 2023 exhibit?

Caitlin Lempia-Bradford

Caitlin Lempia-Bradford is a Minneapolis based artist originally from Eastern Iowa. She received a BFA from the University of Iowa in 2015, and an MFA in painting and drawing from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2022. Her artwork is currently also on display at the Tory Folliard Gallery in Milwaukee, WI.

Her work explores geometry and grids with consideration for color, puzzles and games. Lempia-Bradford’s paintings are created through a process of rule-setting that challenges her to work through constraints designed to enable the discovery of new color and composition opportunities. In parallel with these games and rules, she plays with concepts of imperfection and messiness, welcoming mistakes and accentuating irregularity to find a balance between structure and creativity. Lempia-Bradford describes her work as “..both serious and silly”.

Daren Henry

Daren Henry is a St. Paul based oil painter. He received his B.A. in Studio Art from St. Olaf.

His work explores the combination of unique materials and mediums to create a complex surface and end result. Henry’s paintings start with recognizable images that jumpstart the creative process, whether it be an object, figure, or landscape. He plays with layers of color and line, repainting different iterations of strokes to achieve a work that “fits [his] vision and feels like it ‘works'”.
